Would rather = prefer, like
to. Had rather, which is more
formal, has the same meaning . The contracted form could be either one.
I´d
rather visit the museum.
Would rather is followed by than if the rejected choice is
indicated (than = instead of).
I´d
rather go to the museum than the movies.
